Meet Your 2024/25 BCBS Board Candidates

Two of your Butler County Brewing Society Board positions are up for election at the November Monthly Meeting, and two Members are stepping up to fill those positions and help lead your BCBS. Let’s meet them!

Matt Cutter – Incumbant Candidate for Treasurer

1. How long have you been a part of the Butler County Brewing Society?

Since day 1. Coming up on 7 years.

2. How did you get into homebrewing, and what styles do you like to make?

I took a non-credit Homebrewing course at OSU during my last quarter there in Fall 1993, and started brewing extract after that. I don’t have set preferences really, but brew what I like to drink. I like to get a little experimental as well. I’d say I stay to the traditional styles mostly.

3. What do you enjoy about being a BCBS Member?

The comradery. It was a big factor in deciding to stay in Cincinnati instead of moving somewhere else for work. I also like trying everyone’s creations, as well as having chances to compete.

4. What do you hope to improve about the BCBS in 2023/24?

I am hoping to attract more members to the club and build up our competition experience. Hoping to get more people to open Untappd accounts for their home breweries.

5. Anything else you want BCBS Members to know about you?

I am always open to suggestions. Also, it’s all about the check-ins. It’s dogma.

Jeff Weeks – Candidate for Communications Director

1. How long have you been a part of the Butler County Brewing Society?

Having been homebrewing for about a year before my wife started working at Municipal, I had no idea such a club existed. While visiting Municipal often, I soon met Andrew Anderson who informed me of the club. I finally worked up to nerve to attend a meeting in early Spring of 2018. By my Ohio State math, I have been a member for over 5 years.(has it been that long?!)

2. How did you get into homebrewing, and what styles do you like to make?

On Father’s Day of 2016 my wife gifted me a Brewers Best Homebrew kit in light of my recent kinship to craft beer. Knowing that I was somewhat satisfied with my Mr. Beer attempt years prior, she thought I could try again. As for styles I like to brew? Let’s throw a dart at the wheel of style and hope in dosent hit Belgian, Hefeweizen or Saison! My brew journal may favor IPA’s but I enjoy styles that have a strong malt base canvas that my brother and I can get creative with. (i.e. a Munich Dunkel with mustard)

3. What do you enjoy about being a BCBS Member?

I would say it’s the camaraderie and encouragement. Certainly the feedback and sharing of knowledge has vastly improved and diversified my brewing. And if not for the other members and the staff at Municipal (namely, Jim & Sean), I’m not sure my membership would have lasted this long.

4. What do you hope to improve about the BCBS in 2023/24?

I would not only hope to grow the membership but also love to see our club featured as a key contributor to a local non-profit organization. Whether it be through fund-raising or volunteering.

5. Anything else you want BCBS Members to know about you?

I have been married to my supportive wife, Diana, for 27 years and have two offspring. D.J. our oldest is 26 and our Special Needs daughter, Alaina Hope, who is 25. My professional career includes 14 years at Fernald as a photographer and 15 years of managing a retail photography studio. I currently work in IT installing networks for dental offices in the Tri-State area. The epiphany I had when I started brewing: Why do I enjoy all this work that goes into making beer? Just like photography, I generally enjoy the results and take pleasure in the fact that others do as well.
